Russ Esmacher is the Senior Manager of Business Development for the Optical Transport Business Unit of Cisco Systems. He is responsible for developing Cisco’s packet optical transport strategy for new business opportunities for existing and new markets. Previously, he was the Senior Manager of Technical Marketing and Product Line Management responsible for product definition and development, marketing, and field implementation of Cisco Systems’ DWDM and SONET/SDH portfolio. He joined Cisco in 2000 and has more than fifteen years of telecommunications experience in DWDM transmission, SONET/SDH, and optical fiber and component design. Prior to joining Cisco, he was an optical engineer with Fujikura developing new specialty fibers and optical component subsystems. Prior to joining Fujikura, he was an optical engineer with Corning developing and manufacturing G.652 and G.655 optical fibers. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Clemson University’s Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technology (COMSET).
